In our journey to spreading awareness on breast cancer especially during the Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we had an exciting conversation with Dr Shabnam Bashir, Senior Consultant Breast/Colorectal/Peritoneal Surface Cancers at Noora Cancer Centre and Mubarak Hospital Mubarak Hospital, Jammu & Kashmir. She informed that sedentary lifestyle is actually a big concern in the changing world which also leads to Breast Cancer apart from genetical reasons. She further adds that if mastectomy survivors get personalised breast implants and breast prostheses then it will be a welcoming change especially if they are leakproof and gives a natural touch and feel. This will bring back the confidence that these survivors loose after their breast is removed as a part of medical procedure.

Dr Shabnam Bashir
Dr Shabnam Bashir got trained in Breast & Colorectal cancer surgeries from Tata Memorial hospital Mumbai & advanced Robotic surgeries from Roswell Park Cancer Institute US. She is 1st Vattikuti Robotic Colorectal Fellow of India. She is Fellow of Association of Colorectal Surgeons of India, Fellow Association of surgeons of India, Member of Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Glasgow UK, and Member of Indian Society of Peritoneal Surface Malignancies and additionally Core Founder member of Rectal Cancer Treatment Outcome Group. Dr Shabnam has been running a Cancer awareness drive and has touched around 12000 lives through her talks & she has Contributed articles on importance of Screening in Cancer , latest advancements in Cancer therapy and role of diet in reducing Colorectal cancers. She has Contributed chapters to many books including a chapter on Breast Cancer Management in the oncology textbook called ‘A Textbook of Clinical Oncology in Indian Context’. In addition to having contributed chapters in various books, has published around 11-12 articles and papers in various indexed journals & has many awards from various organisations & conferences to her credit. She has been a proponent of Preventive Oncology and precision oncology. She has the credit of being The first female organ specific oncosurgeon of Kashmir to be trained in advanced Robotic surgeries. She is amongst a few female Colorectal surgeons in India to be trained in CRS, HIPEC & PIPAC therapies.
